News of the World apologises for 'gay romp' libel

England footballer Ashley Cole received an apology in today's News of the World for stories the paper ran in February. They alleged that unnamed premiership players had been involved in a "gay romp", and one version was illustrated by a pixellated picture of Cole and a radio dj, Masterstepz. Some readers were able to identify them and both men sued for libel. The News of the World has paid the men damages as well as apologising for the false allegations. (Via BBC News)
