Newry sudden death not being treated as suspicious, police say

Police investigating the death of a woman in Newry have confirmed the incident is not suspicious.

A PSNI spokesman said that a post mortem “has been conducted following the sudden death of a woman in the Damolly Meadows area of Newry yesterday (Friday 13th November)”.

They added: “The death is not being treated as suspicious.”

The death lead to the area of Damolly Meadows being sealed off by the PSNI as personnel in forensic suits examined the scene.

Local Sinn Féin councillor Valerie Harte said her thoughts were with “with the family of the deceased”.

SDLP councillor Michael Savage said: “This is very tragic news coming from our city.”

On Friday night the Ambulance Service had said they received a 999 call at 5.40pm on Friday and that a Rapid Response Paramedic and Emergency crew had been dispatched.
