Newport Transporter Bridge made a surprise appearance on Good Morning Britain this morning, much to the excitement of Newportonians on social media.
GMB's weatherman, Alex Beresford, gave today's UK forecast from the bridge, with panoramic views over Newport in the background - unsurprisingly, while telling viewers that today would be "another hot and humid one."
After spotting the iconic landmark on morning telly, people were understandably quite excited.
"So it should be. Both Newport and its Transporter Bridge. We probably qualified for the hottest place in the UK yesterday. The bridge is simply an icon," said one Twitter user.
Another tweeted: "Now there's a childhood memory! Walking across the top walkway of the Newport Transporter Bridge!
"Scary for a little one, no wonder I'm a bit edgy on anything high up with gaps underfoot!"
After spotting people's excited tweets about the Port's surprise appearance, weatherman Alex Beresford responded - keen to justify his wardrobe choice this morning.
The appearance comes just days after our beloved bridge was featured in The Times, in an article titled 'It doesn’t hit Paris’s heights but you sure get an Eiffel of Newport.'
The article offers the Transporter Bridge as a staycation alternative to currently out-of-reach spots such as the Golden Gate Bridge and the Eiffel Tower.
It reads: 'The city of Newport in south Wales would like you to know it has the answer.'
The Transporter Bridge is one of only six such bridges still in operation worldwide, and you can visit Wednesday - Sunday, 10am - 5pm.
