Newport pub forced to delay its reopening due to flooding, water damage and a fallen ceiling

A popular sports bar in Newport has been forced to delay its planned reopen after sustaining water damage, a fallen ceiling and flooded kitchens in its premises.

The Riverside Sports Bar and Kitchen on Clarence Place has said it had hoped to reopen its doors on Monday, August 3, when pubs and restaurants in Wales are permitted to welcome back customers indoors.

However, the pub’s owners have said they are now unable to do so due to a host of issues in its premises, including what it claims are water damage, a fallen ceiling and flooded kitchens.

In a statement online the owners said they were “currently [facing] a variety of issues with the building at Clarence House that accommodates Riverside Sports Bar And Kitchen."

They added: “As a result of these ongoing issues including water damage, electrical damage, a fallen ceiling, flooded kitchens as well as some fallen concrete we are not currently able to resume trading as we had planned on 3 August.”

“Our landlord is currently dealing with the head landlord of the building to try and rectify many of these issues.”

Saying it had made a number of improvements to the pub since lockdown, the owners of the bar said it was “sad that at this time we are still unable to share these with you.

“We want you all to know we are still working hard behind the scenes and hope to be able to trade the Riverside and be back with you all very soon.”
