Newport County vs Man City! League Two side knock Middlesbrough out of FA Cup to earn seven-figure payday

League Two side Newport County will host reigning Premier League champions Man City in the fifth round of the FA Cup after defeating Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.

The Welsh side, who defeated Leicester City in the previous round, stand to make a seven-figure sum from their second FA Cup in successive seasons.

Newport earned an estimated £900,000 from last season’s cup run, which saw them eventually defeated by Premier League side Tottenham at the second attempt in the fourth round.

Now, thanks to second half goals from Robbie Willmott and Padraig Amond, they face Pep Guardiola’s City in the next round.

Speaking ahead of the match, manager Michael Flynn referred to then potential financial windfall as ‘Bully's special prize’, in reference to the gameshow Bullseye.

"This could end up like Bullseye - Bully's special prize, look what you could have won.

"You start getting carried away and you see the boat floating off, and you end up with a rubber dinghy.”

Well, they can buy plenty of rubber dinghy’s now!
