Newport County vs Leicester City U21s called off at the 11th hour due to frozen pitch

Newport County's EFL Trophy quarter-final at Rodney Parade has been postponed at the 11th hour due to a frozen pitch.

The Exiles' last-eight match against Leicester City Under-21s had been due to kick off in Newport at 7pm.

But, on warming up, it was decided the game could should not go ahead due to the wintry conditions.

The club announced just shy of 6.45pm the match had been postponed due to a frozen pitch.

Newport now remain just two matches away from making it to Wembley for the final of what is known for sponsorship reasons as the Leasing.Com Trophy.

A rearranged fixture date to face the unbeaten Leicester U21s is due to be announced in due course.
