Newport County 'throwing away unbelievable opportunity' ahead of taking on Bolton Wanderers

Newport County boss Michael Flynn says his side will not give up on the prospect of automatic promotion out of League Two until it cannot be done but is under no illusions of the test his side faces when they take on Bolton Wanderers.

The Trotters travel to Rodney Parade to take on the Exiles in South Wales on Easter Monday.

Ian Evatt's men make the journey having moved into the top three following a draw against Colchester United on Good Friday and other results in the division that day going their way.

Newport suffered their third loss in succession that day against Barrow and now seventh in the table, seven points behind Bolton.

Flynn insists he will not give up on aspirations of being in the top three until not mathematically possible.

But he feels the Barrow loss was a missed opportunity and is under no illusions of the task facing his side against the Trotters.

"I will never give up [on automatic promotion] until it is mathematically impossible, and now we have a big, big game against a high-flying Bolton team," Flynn told the South Wales Argus.

“They are full of confidence and we are a little bit down at the minute. It’s going to be a tough game and we need to be at our best to get the three points.

"It's a missed opportunity to close the gap on the top three because a few results went for us.

"But if we don't take care of our business then it doesn't matter what anybody else does.

"We need to realise the fantastic situation that we have got ourselves in.

"We won't do anything the easy way, it's so frustrating and we need to snap out of this and stop giving teams three points.

"We are throwing away an unbelievable opportunity."
