Newport County footballers' kits stolen along with cash and laptops after training ground break-in during lockdown

Newport County AFC has said it is “appalled” after discovering its training ground had been broken into during the coronavirus lockdown.

The club issued a short statement over the weekend appealing for information after discovering the break-in at its training base in Newport International Sports Village in Lliswerry, known locally as Spytty Park.

The incident reportedly took place between April 9 and 12 and among the items taken was a quantity of cash, an Apple iMac, a laptop, an iPad and playing kit/jerseys.

Newport County’s statement read: “Newport County AFC were appalled, given the current environment, to find its training base has been broken into. The matter has been reported to the police.

“If anyone is offered any Newport County AFC apparel or if they know anything about the incident they are urged to contact the police on 101 and quote the crime number 2000 124 252.”

A statement from Gwent Police said: “A break in at the Newport County training ground at Newport International Sports Village was reported to us on 12 April.

“It reportedly took place sometime between 9 and 12 April. Stolen items include: a quantity of cash; Apple iMac; a laptop; iPad; and playing kit/jerseys.

“Officers are investigating. Anyone with information relating to this is asked to contact us via 101 quoting 2000124252 or by direct message on our Facebook or Twitter pages.”
