Newmilns man refused alcohol licence following conviction for fraud

A man who went on a spending spree using a woman’s debit card has been refused a licence to sell alcohol.

Russell Abercrombie, 31, of Strath Crescent in Newmilns, was convicted of fraudulently using a woman’s debit card to buy food and household goods from a Tesco store in June last year.

He spent £70.79 on her card.

Abercrombie was sentenced to one year’s supervision when his case was called at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court in December 2018.

East Ayrshire Council’s licensing board unanimously refused to grant Abercrombie a personal licence when councillors met last week.
