Newmains Primary staff and pupils to light candles to remember life of Laia Jenkins

Heartbroken pupils and staff at Newmains Primary will light candles tonight to remember little Laia Jenkins.

Brave Laia’s life was tragically cut short at the age of just seven when she passed away due to an inoperable brain tumour.

Following Laia’s diagnosis last year, a series of fundraising events took place in order to help the youngster complete her bucket list including many involving staff and pupils at the school.

And tonight, at 7.30pm, the school is urging everyone to light a candle to remember Laia’s life.

A statement reads on the school’s Twitter page: “We are heartbroken to hear of the passing of one of our pupils Laia Jenkins.

“To quote one of Laia’s favourite films, Annie, ‘you’re never fully dressed without a smile’ and she had such a beautiful one. It lit up a room.

“Please join us by asking an adult to light a candle to remember that smile and honour Laia’s memory at 7.30pm on Thursday, May 7.”

Laia’s funeral will take place tomorrow (Friday, May 8) with a procession through the village starting at midday
