Pupils at Newmains Primary said a fond farewell to two teachers who spent nearly 45 years of their career at the school.
Elizabeth Maguire and Janice Govan said goodbye at the end of the school term, bringing to a close two tremendous teaching careers.
Mrs Maguire, the school’s principal teacher, had been at Newmains for 30 years while Mrs Govan said goodbye to pupils and staff after 14 years.
The school’s head teacher Scott Smith admits Newmains Primary are missing “two massive pieces of our school jigsaw”.
Mr Smith said: “On behalf of the staff, pupils and Newmains community, we would like them for their years of dedication and service.
“We wish them both a long, healthy and happy retirement. We will miss them both very much.”
Mrs Maguire filled a variety of roles during her long career with the school.
Mrs Govan was previously the school librarian before re-training and coming into the classroom.
Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions, both teachers were unable to say goodbye to all the kids.
However, a virtual assembly was held in its place.
Mr Smith added: “I have been here for five-and-a-half years and the support I have been given from Elizabeth and Janice has been incredible.
“I think in her time here, Elizabeth has filled every role apart from the janitor!
“After being the librarian, Janice returned as a mature student during her teacher training before moving into teaching full time.
“There’s no doubt these are big shoes that we have to fill.
“If you think of the school being a jigsaw then we have lost two massive pieces.
“I think both of them enjoyed the virtual assembly although it is a shame they didn’t get the chance to say bye to everyone in person.”
