Boss Craig Gupwell insists the decision to alter plans for the West of Scotland League won’t affect Newmains.
Lanarkshire Live Sport revealed last week that the top three teams from the West Region Championship - Cumbernauld, Blantyre Vics, and Darvel - would be promoted with no relegation from the old Premiership.
These sides will now, along with Bonnyton Thistle, form the revamped tier six it was confirmed after crunch talks with the SFA.
These were agreed after the conference system agreed by clubs was turned down by the governing body as it would not be possible to add all of the teams to their Judicial Protocol.
Conferences below, which will include Newmains, will now form a seventh tier.
Despite missing out on potential pay days and big crowds with junior giants at Victoria Park, Gupwell states money wasn't the motive behind United backing the proposal.
He said: “I must admit the decisions that were made last week will have no impact on us at all.
“That’s because at no point was our decision to move to the new set-up ever based on thinking we’d have Premiership teams bringing larger crowds to Victoria Park.”
Gupwell said the call was made to support the move as it opens the door for a club like Newmains to go all the way up into the SPFL.
He added: “We made the decision to move because we see it as a unique opportunity to help progress our own club to the next level.
“We now look forward to the conference being confirmed and look forward to a new era for the club. We can’t wait to get back to playing within the new set up.”
