Newmains Army Cadets joined their friends from across Glasgow and Lanarkshire in attending their first residential annual camp since the pandemic halted these activities.
All cadets had opportunities to take part in outdoor exercises, zip lining, inflatable water park, raft building, wall climbing, shooting, team building exercises, archery, obstacle courses and lots more.
They spent 14 days in York and despite all the business even had time to visit local attractions such as Eden Camp, Flamingo Land and North Yorkshire Water Park.
Cadets returned with many stories to tell of their adventure and gave some amazing feedback:
Cadet Lance Corporal Craig Brown told Lanarkshire Live : “I have grown in confidence, taken on more responsibility and developed better shooting skills as I learned how to breathe properly.”
Cadet Perry Cavinue added: “Annual camp was an amazing experience, I have become so much more independant and had a great time.
"My highlight was beating the top score climbing up the climbing tower and getting over the nine foot wall unaided.”
The Newmains adult volunteers also offered amazing feedback on their experience. Sergeant Liam Murray attended as his first annual camp as an adult instructor and had this to say: “Camp was hard work, but a great experience and one I will never forget.”
If you know someone who would love to join the army cadets you can apply online through the army cadet website or you can visit the platoon on their parade nights which are Monday and Thursday evenings from 7pm to 9.30pm in Victoria Street, Newmains.
