Newlyweds snapped in romantic Glasgow wedding pic found after social media appeal

The search for a pair Glasgow newlyweds who were snapped by chance in Royal Exchange Square at the weekend is over after the photographer was able to make contact with them.

Leslie Bell, from Strathbungo, put out an appeal to find the lovely couple that appeared in the background of a photo she took of the Duke of Wellington statue outside the GoMA.

And, thanks to the help of Glasgow Live, we are glad to report that Leslie has been able to make contact with newlyweds Lisa and Conor McIlhargey and send them the brilliant photo.

As you'd expect, Leslie is more than made up about tracking down the newlyweds to send them the photo taken of them under the canopy of lights on Saturday.

She said: "I'm delighted to have caught this image and so pleased that the power of Facebook helped find the happy couple. It's been a rubbish year and while it would have been so easy to have ignored this captured moment I just felt it was a kind thing to do.

"After all, if 2020 has taught me anything it's that kindness should prevail."

And groom Conor told Glasgow Live that both he and wife Lisa have been left "overwhelmed" by the amount of attention Lisa's search and the photo itself generated.

He said: "The wedding was originally supposed to take place on May 8 this year. Then due to the current situation we postponed it until May next year but as we got to about October we decided we couldn’t wait until May and wanted to get married before the year was out.

"We had our ceremony in St. Michael’s Chapel in Parkhead. After that our photographer, John Clark, took us a walk around the city centre and finished at the GOMA and the picture that the woman took of us that you then published was actually of our first dance as a married couple.

"When Lisa and I saw the story on your Facebook we couldn’t actually believe it was us at first and we are a bit overwhelmed with the amount of attention it gathered.

"We are really happy as we could only have 16 guests at the ceremony and now all these other people have got to see this picture of us on our wedding day."

We wish Lisa and Conor all the best.
