Newlyweds caught speeding by police 'moments after getting married'

A newly-married couple were caught speeding "moments after getting married", according to police.

Greater Manchester Police's traffic division posted a picture of the newlyweds' black BMW – still with its wedding ribbons attached – on to its social media.

The couple were reportedly travelling at 47mph in a 30mph zone in Radcliffe, Bury, when they were clocked by police, report Manchester Evening News.

The caption on the image read: "Moments after getting married, this bride & groom were clocked driving 47mph in a 30mph zone by #TransportUnit & #SCIU [Serious Collision Investigation Unit] yesterday in Radcliffe.

"'To Have & To Hold' your driving license [sic] is a privilege.

"Don't risk losing it.

"#speedgunwedding."

The identity of the couple and how they were punished for the speeding offence is unknown.

Current coronavirus restrictions in England state that weddings can only take place in exceptional circumstances, with a maximum of six people able to attend.

Up to six people will be able to attend weddings in any circumstances from March 29.

The limit will then rise to 15 people from April 12 at the earliest, and then up to 30 people from May 17.

The earliest all wedding restrictions could be lifted is June 21.
