A grief-stricken British newlywed whose wife died from what he suspects was 'food poisoning' while they were on their honeymoon claims he has been banned from returning home from Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan police have reportedly stopped Londoner Khilan Chandaria, 33, from leaving the country where he had been holidaying with his wife, massage therapist Usheila Patel, 31, when she fell ill and died.
The couple had been married in Brent in north London on April 19, and left for their honeymoon on April 23, arriving to staying at a £100-a-night five-star hotel in coastal Galle, reports the Mail Online .
Mr Chandaria told how he had noticed a strange 'smell' in the room at the Amari hotel.

A cleaner attended to their room, and after they left the couple had a sandwich and chips.
They reportedly both became feverish and were vomiting blood.
They phoned for help around 3am local time, and the couple were rushed to Co-Operative Hospital, Mr Chandaria claimed.
His wife was then transported to Karapitiya Hospital, but she died.
Mr Chandaria, a phone shop manager, said a post-mortem had showed his wife had died from dehydration and vomiting.
A spokesman for the Amari Hotel said the couple dined inside and that other items they 'obtained from outside and consumed' had been given to investigators - although he did not detail what the items were.
The couple had reportedly purchased vodka and Sprite at Heathrow Airport.

Now, Mr Chandaria claims he has been banned from leaving while local authorities investigate.
He told The Sun: "The authorities are not treating me as a culprit but aren't treating me like a victim either. I don't want to leave without her."
His mother has since said he remains there, and she told the newspaper her husband was also in Sri Lanka alongside her son, whom she described as unwell.
The UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office confirmed a British woman had died in Sri Lanka and that it is in contact with Sri Lankan authorities.

According to the Mail, the couple had met on dating app Tinder and began their relationship in March of 2016.
Mr Chandaria proposed in November 2018, and following their wedding this April they had had travelled to Sri Lanka for their honeymoon for a two-week, £6,600 trip.
He said: "I still talk to Usheila at night when I look at the stars. She was supposed to be with me for the rest of our lives."
