Newlywed asks guest for £3.66 for taking an additional piece of wedding cake - after checking the CCTV

“Can you please send the £3.66 asap”

For most newlyweds, the first few months of marriage is generally spent enjoying the honeymoon period. But for one couple, they trawled through the CCTV tape from their big day to catch out any guests who took additional pieces of wedding cake – and chased them up for the £3.66.

One Reddit user took to the site to share a WhatsApp message they received after apparently attending a friend or family member’s wedding, and while they didn’t add any context to their post, it’s safe to say the screenshot spoke for itself.

“Hey, so we were looking at the CCTV and saw that you had two pieces of the wedding cake –

“We announced that each guest must pay per slice and noticed that you only paid for the one”, the anonymous couple wrote, before asking: “Can you please send the £3.66 asap.”

Naturally, the absurd request sent fellow Redditors into a frenzy.

“Tell them to take you to small claims court”, one joked, while another suggested they should pay the £3.66 in pennies.

Other Redditors were stunned: “They reviewed the tape??? What the f**k”. Another was “appalled”.

“No, honey, we can’t go down to the beach yet”, they commented. “We still have to watch the hours of cake footage and cross-reference each person’s appearance with the contents of the payment box and all the Square app receipts. Do you have the spreadsheet open?”

Another sarcastically wrote, “I mean… I don’t know about you, but I’d rather have an extra £3.66 in my pocket than enjoy my honeymoon.”

One highlighted that wedding guests tend to pay for gifts, transport and wedding-appropriate clothing, and subsequently suggested for the anonymous user to respond with: “Subtracting the cost of the slice of cake, you owe me XXX. Please remit immediately to avoid late fees.”

“It’s incredibly cheeky to ask guests to pay for the cake, let alone review footage and then bill guests after the fact for £3.66! How are they not embarrassed?”

...No words.
