Newly opened store teams up with Lanarkshire foodbank for next 12 months

A new store in Shotts will team up with a local charity for the next 12 months.

The Original Factory Shop, which is due to open this week, put a post out on Facebook asking who should be their charity for the year in Shotts.

The store got hundreds of comments through social media and picked Pauls Parcels, the town’s local foodbank.

The organisation, which also operates as a clothing bank, takes its name in memory of founder Tracey Duffy’s brother Paul who died at the tragically young age of just 37.

Since its inception, the foodbank has managed to obtain premises in Shotts and has continued to operate despite several lockdowns.

Despite the financial hardship being suffered by many, those living in Shotts are backing the foodbank to the hilt.

Paul’s Parcel’s volunteer and trustee Gus Colquhoun was delighted at the number of people who voted for the charity.

He said: “It’s a huge boost for us especially being a local charity.

“It is run by volunteers who are all trying to do their best.

“Over the last six months we have been busier than ever and during the school holidays it just keeps going.

“We are really appreciative of everyone who took the time to vote for us and to the Original Factory Shop for selecting Paul’s Parcels.”
