Newly-married man finds wife at fatal car crash scene after going to look for her when she didn't return home

A man who went to look for his wife after she failed to come home found her dead body at the scene of a car crash.

Nathan Symes found his wife of 106 days, Sinead, in what police believe was a single car-crash on the A414 in St Albans on Sunday October 4th just after 1am.

In a statement, he paid tribute to his wife, saying she was “a gorgeous, caring and trustworthy person, whilst also being a truly independent woman who just enjoyed having fun, and whose smile and laughter was infectious with anyone she came across.”

The couple had a daughter, Orla Rose. Mr Symes said his wife was “the most fantastic and dedicated mum… I vow that Orla Rose will grow up knowing her mummy. I am so proud and honoured that although Sinead and I were together for almost seven years, I was able to call her my wife for 106 days.”

“There is now a massive hole in our family due to Sinead leaving us that will never be filled. However, neither I, nor Orla Rose, will ever forget her. We will continue to love her forever and always,” the statement said.

Police confirmed they attended reports of an accident involving one vehicle on the A414 near the junction with Potters Crouch Lane.

A Hertfordshire police spokesperson said: “For reasons unknown at this stage, the car Sinead was driving, a black Renault Clio, had left the road and overturned.”

“It is believed… Sinead sadly passed away at the scene. Sinead was found by her husband, who had gone to look for her when she failed to return home.”

Hertfordshire police are still appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call 101.
