Newly designed garden opens at School Close in Kirkcudbright

A new garden has been unveiled at a residential unit for adults with learning disabilities.

School Close in Kirkcudbright opened in 2016 but it didn’t have the same sort of garden as the old home at Mansefield House.

The space at the new Community Integrated Care site has now been transformed with Irene Mitchell and Margo Brown overseeing the work.

And it was officially opened on Sunday by Alison McKie of Castle MacLellan Foods, who made a sizeable donation towards the cost of the projects.

Other groups to help out include Twynholm SWI, the Tuesday golf ladies in Kirkcudbright, the Inner Wheel Club and Kirkcudbright Co-op.

Irene said: “People have been so kind donating plants and the Rotary Club of Kirkcudbright carried out some of the manual work. We’ve had fantastic support.”

Features at the new garden include four raised flowerbeds that are accessible to everyone and a sensory planter behind the gazebo.

And all the plant spaces have been designed to be bee and butterfly friendly.
