Newham stabbing: Young man knifed to death during fight in east London

A young man has been stabbed to death in east London.

Police were called to Hanameel Street, Newham, at around 2am to reports of people fighting.

One man was injured. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the victim - believed to aged 29 - was pronounced dead at the scene at 2.44am.

His next of kin have been informed but formal identification has not taken place yet.

One man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

A Met Police spokesman said: "One man – no further details – was arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody.

"Enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing. Detectives from the Specialist Crime Command have been informed."

The incident took place days after two men were stabbed to death in separate attacks in London.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene following an incident Bromley Road, Walthamstow, just before 7.30pm.

Then at around 8.30pm a man in his thirties suffered fatal knife wounds in a car parked outside a restaurant off the Barnet Bypass.

These two killings brought the number of violent deaths in the capital this year to 137, the highest toll since 2008.
