NewCity mall plans job fair to fill 1,200 positions

June 16--The NewCity shopping center opening this fall in Lincoln Park plans to host a job fair next month to help fill more than 1,200 positions at its dozen retail, restaurant and entertainment tenants.

The job fair is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 18 at CICS ChicagoQuest, a charter school at 1443 N. Ogden Ave., across the street from where NewCity is under construction (an earlier version of this story incorrectly listed the date of the fair as Saturday).

Newly announced tenants Evereve, a women's clothing shop, and James and Sons Fine Jewelers are among the businesses that will be hiring at the fair.

Mariano's, which at more than 83,000 square feet will be the chain's largest store in the city, plans to hire up to 450 people. Other NewCity tenants that will be hiring include ArcLight Cinemas, Dick's Sporting Goods, Kings Bowl, Z Gallerie, Earls Kitchen and Bar, It'Sugar, Nando's Peri-Peri, Adobe Gila's, Yard House and LYFE Kitchen.

Both full- and part-time jobs are available, including clerks and managers, NewCity general manager Scott Rolston said, though he didn't have a more specific breakdown.

NewCity, a $265 million mixed-use project eight years in the making, sits on 8.5 acres just south of the busy North/Clybourn retail corridor.

About 75 percent of the center's 360,000 square feet of retail space has been leased, Rolston said, and it is in negotiations with a retailer for the final 40,000-square-foot anchor space. He expects the center to have more than 80 percent of its retail space leased by the time the mall is scheduled to open Oct. 16.

The project also includes more than 30,000 square feet of medical office space, a 1,000-space public parking garage and a 199-unit apartment tower whose amenities include a fitness studio, spa and outdoor grilling area with fire pit.

RMK Management on Monday announced pre-leasing at NewCity Residences, which expects to begin moving in tenants in July. Apartments, which range from studios to two-bedroom/two-bath units and measuring from 590 to 1,315 square feet, start at $2,083 a month.
