Newcastle women asked to 'give the gift of life' by donating their eggs

Women in Newcastle are being asked to donate their eggs to help families overcome infertility.

The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is appealing for women aged between 18 to 35 to volunteer to become an egg donor.

By volunteering, women can help to save families from the heartache of infertility or pregnancy loss.

Egg donation also helps to support important research that has been vital in developing techniques to prevent the transmission of DNA-related conditions.

Dr Meena Choudhary, clinical lead for the Newcastle Fertility Centre’s egg donor program and associate lecturer at Newcastle University, said: "The innovative techniques we have developed here in the North East have only been made possible by the amazing gift given by our wonderful egg donors.

“We hope that these techniques will continue to allow us to help save many families from the heartache of infertility, pregnancy loss, or having an affected baby, as well as preventing certain conditions being passed onto the next generation.”

The Trust is looking for women from the North East who have a BMI of 30 or lower to volunteer.

Those who take part are being offered up to £750 compensation for a donation cycle as per Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) regulations.

Dr Choudhary continued: “We need women volunteers between the ages of 18 and 35 from the North East to consider being an egg donor so please do get in touch if you would like to help.”
