Newcastle will get the Greggs Festive Bake before every other city

In the most fun vote to take place in the United Kingdom this year, Newcastle has earned the right to have Greggs Festive Bakes before anywhere else.

A public poll saw thousands ask for their UK city to be the first to get the Christmas dinner pasty a whole week before Greggs stocks them around the country. It looked like Birmingham was going to win, but a late fightback saw Geordies claim what is rightly theirs: Greggs' hometown will be the first to get Festive Bakes.

It means Greggs will sell the Festive Bake in its Northumberland Street shop from 4.30pm on Friday November 1, which is the same day Fenwick's Christmas Window is unveiled. Remember what happened last year?

A 'Festive Bake' torch will be carried into the Northumberland Street branch by a Greggs 'superfan' to mark the occasion.

Selected Greggs in Birmingham will stock Festive Bakes from November 2. They will be in Manchester from November 3, Cardiff from November 4 and London from November 5.

Greggs will launch the Festive Bake nationwide on Friday November 7. The bakers will be handing out 100 Festive Bakes near Sunderland's Union Street Greggs on the day.

The Festive Bake is made from chicken breast, sage & onion stuffing and sweetcure bacon in a creamy sage and cranberry sauce,  wrapped in golden puff pastry with a crunchy crumb topping.  It forms part of Greggs' festive menu, which will go on sale alongside the bakes from Friday November 7.
