'Newcastle were awful' Chelsea fans not impressed with Magpies after comfortable win

Chelsea fans were not impressed by the Newcastle United side their team comfortably defeated in the Premier League on Saturday.

Federico Fernandez’s own goal and Tammy Abraham’s calm finish on the counter-attack gave Frank Lampard’s team a 2-0 win at St James’ Park, which briefly sent them top of the table.

Steve Bruce’s side struggled to make an impression on the game, having just 29% of the possession and managing just one shot on target.

Newcastle did have chances through Isaac Hayden and Joelinton and Sean Longstaff hit the bar late on, but it was another blunt display from the Magpies, who missed topscorer Callum Wilson.

Summer signing Wilson has scored six of Newcastle’s 10 Premier League goals, but is missing with a hamstring injury.

Things weren’t much better in defence. Timo Werner spurned a handful of presentable chances, which could have made the game safer for Chelsea, while Newcastle keeper Karl Darlow had to be at his best once again.

"I'm frustrated because we can't get a result," said Bruce post-match. "I make no excuses but we've played three of the top six in the last few weeks."

The defeat leaves Newcastle with 11 points from their opening nine games and it’s fair to say, while Chelsea fans were happy to see their side extend their unbeaten run to nine games in all competitions, they weren’t full of praise for the opposition.
