Newcastle Wasteland Festival - how to get to Spillers Wharf, opening times and tickets

Rock and indie acts are set to perform by the banks of the Tyne at Wasteland Festival this weekend.

Bloc Party headline the festival's first day on Friday, supported by Imogen,  Circa Waves and Mystery Jets. Bloc Party will be playing their Mercury-nominated debut album, Silent Alarm, in full. In an , the band's guitarist, Russell Lissack, promised a and some 'bangers' from their other records.

On Saturday, punk-folk singer-songwriter Frank Turner tops the bill, while Britpop-icon Richard Ashcroft plays on Sunday, supported by the likes of British Sea Power and Peter Hook.

The outdoor festival takes place in Spillers Wharf, Newcastle, on the site of a former Flour Mill on the opposite bank of the Tyne to the Baltic.

Where is Spillers Wharf?

The concerts are on an outdoor site in Spillers Wharf, Newcastle, which is close to Newcastle's Ouseburn area.

The site is a usually a car park by Hadrian's Wall Path, just to the east of Cycle Hub.

How to get there?

The yellow Q3 Quay Link bus from Great Park, Gosforth and Newcastle City Centre stops Walker Road-St Lawrence Square, which is a short walk to the Spillers site.

The nearest Metro is Byker , which is around a 15 minute walk north of Spillers Wharf.

It's an easy walk from the city centre, and should take about 15-20 minutes from the Tyne Bridge - or longer, if you stop off for drinks on the way. You could also head to Spillers Wharf via Ouseburn , either through the Quayside or New Bridge Street. There are plenty of pubs on that route.

When is the festival open?

Doors open at 5pm on Friday, and 1pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

Are there tickets on sale?

Yes, tickets are on sale for all three days, priced from £37.50.
