Newcastle vs Wolves team news - Jack Colback and Achraf Lazaar handed chance to save Newcastle United careers

Newcastle United coach Ben Dawson named two players in his starting line-up who thought their Toon careers were over.

Jack Colback and Achraf Lazaar were in the opening XI against Wolves while Jacob Murphy made a return to the team after a loan spell with West Brom.

Karl Darlow also got a chance between the posts with Martin Dubravka rested.

Dwight Gayle missed out with a calf injury.

A huge bench also included Sean Longstaff as a substitute as he looked to make his comeback from a knee injury.

Dawson can make 10 changes in the game but admitted beforehand he would have to rotate the squad for the second game in the tournament.

However, that will now be overseen by Steve Bruce after he was appointed head coach today.

Before the game Jamaal Lascelles said: "We have just got to stick together as one. It is a tournament so we are looking to win our games we are looking to get fitness from it.

“I am not sure how much rotation there will be with the new rules with substitutions but we are obviously looking to win the game.”
