Nuno Espirito Santo speaks to Sky Sports
19:56 , Harry Latham-Coyle“The game was not lost,” the West Ham manager says when asked if the game was gone in the first 20 minuets. “We had a big disadvantage, we conceded two goals, but it was not lost. We tried to react, but the way we conceded was poor, and even though we tried to react, it was not enough.
“I saw mistakes, that happens, I saw disorganisation, we were too open and allowed Newcastle to play. It was a very difficult match for us. Maybe we could have prepared better.
“We started the game poorly. Then everything is much harder. Let’s try to finish the season with dignity and respect for the club. It is going to be a hard week for us but we owe it to the club to try to the end.
“I understand the fans are frustrated and disappointed, with reason. We understand that.”
Premier League relegation battle: How Tottenham can send rivals West Ham down with a game to spare
19:40 , Harry Latham-CoyleHere are the full relegation permutations – West Ham, it’s looking bleak.

Premier League relegation battle: How Tottenham can send West Ham down
FT: Newcastle 3-1 West Ham
19:33 , Harry Latham-CoyleFor Newcastle, meanwhile, there is still a slim chance of European football next year – a Conference League place remains mathematically within reach. They were deserving winners today.
FT: Newcastle 3-1 West Ham
19:32 , Harry Latham-CoyleDejected faces in claret and blue wherever you look. A hint of resignation to their fate, too? Today felt like the day that a win needed to come. Tottenham will be safe if they take one more point from their final two games – barring an almighty goal difference swing.
FULL TIME! Newcastle 3-1 West Ham
19:28 , Harry Latham-CoyleNewcastle 3-1 West Ham, 90 + 6 minutes
19:26 , Harry Latham-CoyleNewcastle break at pace and have five in the box as Jacob Murphy looks up. He crosses for someone who isn’t Anthony Elanga, but Elanga swings wildly regardless and spoons up into Row W.
Still, West Ham aren’t getting two back now.
Newcastle 3-1 West Ham, 90 + 5 minutes
19:25 , Harry Latham-CoyleA flick of the parapet and looping into Nick Pope’s arms
Newcastle 3-1 West Ham, 90 + 4 minutes
19:25 , Harry Latham-CoyleRight, this is a chance. Crysencio Summerville is hacked at by Bruno Guimaraes as the Newcastle captain continues to lose his head.
25 yards out, left of centre. Perfect for a right-footer. Taty Castellanos has already scored one beauty....
Newcastle 3-1 West Ham, 90 + 3 minutes
19:24 , Harry Latham-CoyleNot Diouf’s best minute. He lets a pass run across him and out of play, before booting a bottle in frustration. Oh, West Ham.
Newcastle 3-1 West Ham, 90 + 2 minutes
19:22 , Harry Latham-CoyleAn El Hadji Malick Diouf cross fails to clear the first defender. Guimaraes earns a free kick. A look of grim resignation of the West Ham fans up in the rafters.
Newcastle 3-1 West Ham, 90 minutes
19:21 , Harry Latham-CoyleSeven minutes, in fact. Bruno Guimaraes begins it by having an argument with Joe Willock, obviously.
Newcastle 3-1 West Ham, 89 minutes
19:19 , Harry Latham-CoyleIt’s do or (figuratively) die for West Ham at this stage. There will be a healthy dollop of stoppage time, of course.
Newcastle 3-1 West Ham, 87 minutes
19:18 , Harry Latham-CoyleKieran Trippier immediately has a Sky Sports microphone thrust in his face. Poor fella.
Meanwhile, West Ham are fighting for their Premier League lives. Not sure this is needed. Newcastle win a corner while their colleague prattles on.
Newcastle 3-1 West Ham, 85 minutes
19:16 , Harry Latham-CoyleA lovely touch from Eddie Howe, substituting Kieran Trippier with five minutes to go so the departing right-back can receive a mighty ovation. A nice moment.
William Osula also heads off, deserving of a round of applause himself after a two-goal evening. On come Yoane Wissa and Anthony Elanga.
Newcastle 3-1 West Ham, 82 minutes
19:14 , Harry Latham-CoyleJust a slight sense that Newcastle have quietened the storm a bit. West Ham will have another chance or two, but will have to take them.
Lewis Hall is booked for stalling a counter-attack.
Newcastle 3-1 West Ham, 80 minutes
19:11 , Harry Latham-CoyleMohamadou Kante goes into the book for kicking the ball away. Not what West Ham need.
Newcastle 3-1 West Ham, 78 minutes
19:08 , Harry Latham-CoyleOff the angle! Oh, West Ham, you’ve had your chances...
Taty Castellanos is again the man on the volley, this time via the cushioning of his chest, but his lash goalwards sails away off the woodwork.
Newcastle 3-1 West Ham, 76 minutes
19:07 , Harry Latham-CoyleA clever near-post flick from Callum Wilson is also calmly dealt with by the Newcastle goalkeeper.
Newcastle 3-1 West Ham, 75 minutes
19:06 , Harry Latham-CoyleWasteful! Newcastle have just lost their discipline a touch, and let Jarrod Bowen run free towards the ‘D’. His shot is way below his usual standards, an aggressive toe poke that Nick Pope deals with comfortably enough.
Dan Burn and Jacob Murphy are sent on by Eddie Howe.
Newcastle 3-1 West Ham, 74 minutes
19:04 , Harry Latham-CoyleVAR Craig Pawson delays a restart to check a possible penalty. Lewis Hall on Callum Wilson...not for me, but who knows after the last fortnight?
Cleared quickly. No foul, no penalty.
Newcastle 3-1 West Ham, 71 minutes
19:02 , Harry Latham-CoyleThere are more goals in this game, surely. West Ham have to go for broke but could easily concede a couple more.
GOAL! Newcastle 3-1 WEST HAM (Taty Castellanos, 69 minutes)
19:01 , Harry Latham-CoyleCome back, Hammers – that is one of the great goals to give them hope!
From absolutely nowhere, is there a twist? A high hoist forward bounces beyond Callum Wilson but not Taty Castellanos, who swivels and stuns Nick Pope with a quite simply sensational finish that rockets into the far top corner. Surely not...
Newcastle 3-0 West Ham, 67 minutes
18:58 , Harry Latham-CoyleA few West Ham fans are heading for the exit, perhaps hoping to catch the 19.27 to Kings Cross.
GOAL! NEWCASTLE 3-0 West Ham (William Osula, 65 minutes)
18:56 , Harry Latham-CoyleBut that may be that! A second for William Osula, a third for Newcastle and a bitter blow for West Ham’s survival hopes.
All those attacking bodies on the pitch but this is so, so sloppy from the visitors. El Hadji Malick Diouf takes a throw-in quickly that Pablo fails to control, and Newcastle are in and away. Osula is left all alone to sweep home past Mads Hermansen, and that’s surely the three points sewn up.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 63 minutes
18:55 , Harry Latham-CoyleHere comes that West Ham change. In fact, changes: Tomas Soucek, sensibly, is taken off, along with Aaron Wan-Bissaka; enter Pablo and Mohamadou Kante. “Where is everyone playing?”, Jarrod Bowen seems to ask – you can’t argue that Nuno Espirito Santo isn’t going for it.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 62 minutes
18:53 , Harry Latham-CoyleMalick Thiaw has been excellent today. Crysencio Summerville breaks in behind but is cut off by the defender, strong and sturdy as he gets in the way to block.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 61 minutes
18:51 , Harry Latham-CoylePablo is being readied for West Ham, the second of their forward January arrivals now needing to make an impact,
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 59 minutes
18:49 , Harry Latham-CoyleThat’s naughty from Tomas Soucek. He and Bruno Guimaraes are involved in a tussle and after the Brazilian hits the deck, Soucek has a kick at the Newcastle midfielder. He’s lucky, in a way, that Guimaraes half blocks it with his arm – just a yellow card, but it could easily have been more.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 57 minutes
18:48 , Harry Latham-CoyleAt the other end, Bruno Guimaraes almost arcs one into the top corner. A bit too much bend, a bit too much height, and the top of the net ruffled.

Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 56 minutes
18:47 , Harry Latham-CoyleMateus Fernandes nearly provides that sort of allegro uplift, driving inside on to his left foot and stinging the palms of Nick Pope. Straight at the goalkeeper, but crisply struck.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 55 minutes
18:46 , Harry Latham-CoyleThat pause while Tonali was treated has just flattened things slightly. West Ham won’t mind a slightly quieter atmosphere but need to lift the tempo.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 53 minutes
18:44 , Harry Latham-CoyleOff Tonali trudges. Joe Willock replaces him. Will the Italian be back next season? One can imagine Newcastle’s resolve will be tested.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 52 minutes
18:43 , Harry Latham-CoyleA worry for Newcastle as Sandro Tonali goes down in need of treatment. Out comes a member of the medical staff.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 50 minutes
18:41 , Harry Latham-CoyleThis is Kieran Trippier’s last outing at St James’ Park, of course, and the veteran right-back rolls back the years with a charge down the right touchline. His delivery isn’t of the same vintage: too deep.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 48 minutes
18:39 , Harry Latham-CoyleEl Hadji Malick Diouf goes down under contact from Malick Thiaw, though it appears the West Ham left-back has lost his footing, hence the lack of a penalty appeal. Back he trots into his position in the back four.
Second half...
18:36 , Harry Latham-CoyleBack underway. Can West Ham turn this around?
HT: Newcastle 2-0 West Ham
18:22 , Harry Latham-CoyleNot the half that West Ham would have wanted, two down early on and forced into a radical rethink as they try to keep their Premier League survival hopes alive. A mess of their own making allowed Nick Woltemade to open the scoring before William Osula finished off a fluent Newcastle move, and the visitors have it all to do.
As things stand, Tottenham would need only a point from their final two games to stay up.
HALF TIME: Newcastle 2-0 West Ham
18:20 , Harry Latham-CoyleNewcastle 2-0 West Ham, 45 + 2 minutes
18:18 , Harry Latham-CoyleA long ball to Callum Wilson from Mateus Fernandes is nicely judged, unlike the striker’s control. Malick Thiaw nips in.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 45 minutes
18:17 , Harry Latham-CoyleThree additional minutes at the end of the half.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 44 minutes
18:15 , Harry Latham-CoyleNewcastle ending the half on the offensive. There’s real zip about their passing today.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 42 minutes
18:13 , Harry Latham-CoyleWhat you would say is that Nuno Espirito Santo has lost one of his impact options later. He’d probably have envisaged making that Castellanos for Todibo change in the second half – needs must.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 40 minutes
18:12 , Harry Latham-CoyleNick Pope almost gets himself in a bit of bother as he miscontrols near his own line. There’s not enough oomph on the pass to him to take into the net.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 38 minutes
18:11 , Harry Latham-CoyleIt’s Mavropanos again who cuts out Kieran Trippier’s outswinger, more conclusively to clear this time.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 37 minutes
18:10 , Harry Latham-CoyleA corner kick gives Newcastle a chance to send the big blokes forward. Konstantinos Mavropanos flicks it behind and up they will stay.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 35 minutes
18:07 , Harry Latham-CoyleNewcastle will feel they just need to ride this West Ham wave. They’ve looked a threat every time they’ve had possession, and again do here as William Osula fails to bring down a neat clipped pass from Bruno Guimaraes.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 33 minutes
18:05 , Harry Latham-CoyleTaty Castellanos and Wilson are working nicely with one another, a neat dummy from the former putting the latter into space. It’s 4-4-2 from West Ham now – old school.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 31 minutes
18:03 , Harry Latham-CoyleStrong defending from Bruno Guimaraes in his own box, ensuring Tomas Soucek cannot corral the ball as it hops about near the penalty spot.
Callum Wilson then can’t quite get the connection he likes. Much better from West Ham.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 30 minutes
18:01 , Harry Latham-CoyleTop stops! That’s nearly what West Ham needed, first Taty Castellanos and then El-Hadji Malick Diouf forcing Nick Pope into outstanding saves in quick succession.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 29 minutes
18:00 , Harry Latham-CoyleWest Ham can’t go chasing the game too hard at this stage. This re-shaping will naturally cause some issues in transition, and Newcastle could easily put the game beyond doubt.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 26 minutes
17:59 , Harry Latham-CoyleOn comes Taty for Jean-Clair Todibo...and the Argentina international almost immediately clashes with Brazil’s Bruno Guimaraes. He’ll put himself about, that’s for certain.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 24 minutes
17:56 , Harry Latham-CoyleNuno has seen enough. Taty Castellanos is stripped and (almost) ready. It’ll be two up top, surely, with one of the three centre-backs sacrificed.
Newcastle 2-0 West Ham, 22 minutes
17:55 , Harry Latham-CoyleTalk about setting the tone. West Ham have been wretched in this first 20 minutes in defensive areas, both in and out of possession. There is a sense that they have been a touch unfortunate results-wise given their performance levels since Nuno Espirito Santo’s arrival, but not today.
GOAL! NEWCASTLE 2-0 West Ham (William Osula, 20 minutes)
17:52 , Harry Latham-CoyleBad, meet worse! Newcastle carve West Ham apart and hammer another nail into their Premier League coffin.
It’s gorgeous, gorgeous football, the visitors dragged this way and that and all higgledy-piggledy in a delicious flowing move. William Osula is slotted in behind and bisects the legs of a sprawling Mads Hermansen to double the Newcastle lead.
Newcastle 1-0 West Ham, 17 minutes
17:49 , Harry Latham-CoyleSo as things stand, West Ham would be effectively down if Tottenham get even a point on Tuesday against Chelsea. Bleak. Still, a lot of time to turn this around.
They’ll have to pick up their level, mind. Their passing in their own half just hasn’t been good enough, affording Newcastle easy, advanced possession.
GOAL! NEWCASTLE 1-0 West Ham (Nick Woltemade, 15 minutes)
17:48 , Harry Latham-CoyleAnd Newcastle have a deserved lead! A cute touch from the big man and Nick Woltemade puts the hosts ahead.
Nuno Espirito Santo bows his head in the dugout, furious with his side. An errant pass from Mads Hermansen gives the ball away shoddily and Harvey Barnes seizes upon it, surging into the box. A low cross is rather deftly turned home by the German – a huge goal in the relegation battle from a mess all of West Ham’s own making.

Newcastle 0-0 West Ham, 13 minutes
17:45 , Harry Latham-CoyleNewcastle are beginning to build some pressure through this series of corners. Bruno Guimaraes swings the latest towards Jarrod Bowen at the near post, but the West Ham captain is beaten to it by William Osula. Headed behind for a goal kick – Osula arrived late but it needed a flick rather than a steer.
Newcastle 0-0 West Ham, 12 minutes
17:43 , Harry Latham-CoyleWilliam Osula hasn’t quite put it all together yet but we’ve seen glimpses of what he can do this season. A mazy run of stepovers takes him to within 25 yards before his shot is deflected behind.
Hang on, the VAR is looking at that Guimaraes’ bender, which might have flicked Tomas Soucek’s arm. Nothing given, in the end – though it definitely struck the West Ham midfielder...
Newcastle 0-0 West Ham, 11 minutes
17:42 , Harry Latham-CoyleSo, of course, Newcastle take the corner short and Bruno Guimaraes curls tamely from 35 yards into the arms of Mads Hermansen. As you were.
Newcastle 0-0 West Ham, 10 minutes
17:41 , Harry Latham-CoyleNick Woltemade uses his bulk to hold off Konstantinos Mavropanos and earn a corner out of the Greek defender. West Ham have conceded more goals from set-pieces than any side this year...
Newcastle 0-0 West Ham, 8 minutes
17:40 , Harry Latham-CoyleTwo balls on the pitch! Is that allowed? Can West Ham score twice? Referee Jarred Gillett does not halt Jarrod Bowen as he charges towards one with the other at his feet, with the West Ham captain rather cheekily asking for a drop ball after his attack runs out of steam. Gillett smiles wryly.
Newcastle 0-0 West Ham, 5 minutes
17:39 , Harry Latham-CoyleNewcastle are managing to work the ball to width effectively in these opening skirmishes, but West Ham might not much mind that. With three centre halves in their side, and wing-backs as well, they are well built defensively.
Newcastle 0-0 West Ham, 3 minutes
17:35 , Harry Latham-CoyleThat’s encouraging for West Ham, too. Aaron Wan-Bissaka gets to the byline down the right and swings in a dangerous cross. Newcastle deal with it well.
Newcastle 0-0 West Ham, 1 minute
17:33 , Harry Latham-CoyleA bright start from Newcastle, pushing up early. William Osula and Nick Woltemade each threaten on the edge of the box but can’t cultivate a chance.
KICK OFF!
17:31 , Harry Latham-CoyleUp and away at St James’ Park!
Newcastle vs West Ham
17:29 , Harry Latham-CoyleRight, I can hear Mark Knopfler’s sweet licks sounding – for the final time this season, Newcastle are going home. Can they deal West Ham’s survival hopes a blow?
Premier League relegation battle: Remaining fixtures for Tottenham and West Ham
17:20 , Harry Latham-CoyleWith kick off just around the corner, here’s a last look at what is to come for the relegation rivals this season. Will it be Tottenham or West Ham to go down?

Can West Ham trouble Newcastle?
17:10 , Harry Latham-CoyleThis feels a sensible selection from West Ham, sacrificing a bit of link play from Taty Castellanos in favour of Callum Wilson’s predatory instincts in the box. With Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville out wide, and Mateus Fernandes a little deeper, there is plenty of creativity there to trouble Newcastle.
Bruno Fernandes caps triumphant season for Man United’s midfielders - on the pitch and in the dugout
17:00 , Harry Latham-CoyleIt’s not just West Ham frustrated by VAR. Nottingham Forest would appear to have plenty of reason to feel aggrieved by the awarding of Matheus Cunha’s goal in a 3-2 defeat to Manchester United. Richard Jolly was there.

Michael Carrick’s successors in midfield crown triumphant day for Manchester United
Nuno Espirito Santo says consistency is needed with VAR decisions
16:50 , Harry Latham-CoyleNuno Espirito Santo has plenty of reasons to criticise VAR but the West Ham boss insists it is a problem that can be solved.Relegation-threatened West Ham were on the wrong end of arguably the biggest VAR decision since it was introduced in the Premier League when Callum Wilson’s late equaliser was disallowed against title-chasing Arsenal last weekend.
“What is needed, and we’re going to speak about referees and VAR, is consistency. It would help the game, it would help the Premier League, it would help first and foremost the players.
“They have to realise, they have to understand that there are no doubts, no frustrations.
“The problem is that we compare similar situations with different decisions. This is where it is a frustration. That’s why I insist on the term consistency, it’s needed.”

Eddie Howe admits Newcastle's season has been a challenge
16:40 , Harry Latham-CoyleNewcastle boss Eddie Howe will look back on the current season with mixed feelings after admitting it has been “a challenge”.
The Magpies will head into today’s final home game of the Premier League campaign against West Ham knowing the Magpies, who reached the knockout stage in the Champions League and the Carabao Cup semi-finals, have underachieved significantly in the league.
Howe’s side lies 13th in the table with two games remaining, 13 points adrift of the fifth place in which they finished last season.
Asked how he would look back on the campaign the 48-year-old, whose future has been called into question as a result, said: “I suppose time will tell, to a degree, but I think my initial thought now in response to that question is I will look back with probably mixed feelings.
“Some major, major highs, some great experiences, some memorable games, successful games for us and then some challenges and some periods where we’ve had to dig really deep and question ourselves and try to come back fighting, so a real mixture.
“(It is) probably different to the other seasons that I’ve had here, which have been more… not consistent success because it’s never like that, but more a feeling of smoothness through the season, of invariably positive feelings. This one has been a challenge.”
Eddie Howe says Newcastle must be alert to old friend Callum Wilson
16:30 , Harry Latham-CoyleNewcastle boss Eddie Howe has put his defenders on red alert as old friend Callum Wilson returns to Tyneside intent on firing West Ham to Premier League safety.
The 34-year-old Hammers frontman spent five years with the Magpies, playing in the Champions League and collecting a Carabao Cup winner’s medal before leaving for West Ham last summer in the search for regular football.
“If you were to build the profile of a striker and you wanted the mentality of that player to be as good as it could be, he would fit that profile. He’s got an unbelievably positive attitude to scoring goals,” Howe said.
“He’s had some really difficult moments in his career that he’s had the resilience to fight back [from], and he’s still fighting and he’s still playing and he’s still scoring.
“He will back himself to score in any moment, any time on the pitch. Even if he’s given 10 minutes at the end he’ll back himself to score, so we need to be really alert to his qualities.“I know the lads know him very well so they will respect him immensely, our players, so whenever he’s on the pitch we’re going to have to defend really well.”

Team news on the way...
16:05 , Harry Latham-CoyleWe’re expecting team news in the next 10 minutes or so, and Anthony Gordon’s role will be interesting – a move to Bayern Munich seems to be on the cards, with Eddie Howe suggesting on Friday that the forward may have played his final game for Newcastle.

Howe hints Anthony Gordon may not play for Newcastle again amid Bayern transfer links
Is Eddie Howe safe?
15:55 , Harry Latham-CoyleNewcastle’s Saudi owners were over here a couple of weeks ago to check in with senior figures at the club, and perhaps have a little mull over Eddie Howe’s future. I recently heard the club’s chief executive, David Hopkinson, speak at a conference, and he didn’t strike as a reactive type, talking about the work Newcastle need to do off the field to ensure they can deliver off it. Still, there is a view in some quarters that Howe has taken the club as far as he can – could a change yet come?

What do Newcastle have to play for today?
15:45 , Harry Latham-CoyleWe’ve naturally focused a lot of our attention on West Ham so far, but Newcastle play their final home game of the season today looking to push for as high a finish as possible. It has been a disappointing campaign for Eddie Howe and his side – they go to Fulham on the final day.

15:30 , Harry Latham-CoyleWest Ham, certainly, weren’t best pleased about the circumstances in which they lost a potentially crucial point.

Jarrod Bowen criticises VAR decision that denied West Ham a vital point against Arsenal
15:10 , Harry Latham-CoyleIt could have been different for West Ham last time out, of course, a point snatched at the last taken away by a VAR review – much to Jarrod Bowen’s frustration:

Nuno insists West Ham will not change approach today
15:00 , Harry Latham-CoyleNuno Espirito Santo insists West Ham will not change their approach for the must-win match at Newcastle.
The Hammers need a victory at St James’ Park to ensure the Premier League relegation battle goes to the final day of the season.
The situation is critical, with West Ham currently 18th, two points behind Tottenham with two games remaining. But Hammers boss Nuno insisted: “We’ve been saying that since the beginning. Every game is a must-win game so nothing has changed.
“The importance of the points are the same. The situation is decisive, yes. But I hope they stay focused, doing their tasks, try to ignore what’s coming around, try to ignore the ifs and the anxiety of different scenarios
.“Focus on what you have and that is action after action. I believe that this is the best approach for the players and for our team.
“I think we’ve been through such experiences and this is valuable for us. Realising what happened in the past, how we deal with situations, what you can avoid. I will try to help our players as best as I can.”

Newcastle vs West Ham LIVE
13:45 , Harry Latham-CoyleIt’s crunch time for West Ham as they battle to stay in the Premier League, just two games left and with matters entirely out of their hands. Their penultimate fixture is away at a Newcastle side with little to play for – a winnable game, you’d say, but Nuno Espirito Santo’s side will have to if they are to put the pressure on Tottenham.
Kick off is at 5.30pm BST.
