Newcastle vs West Ham could be 52,000 sell out say Premier League - and broadcast line-up announced

The Premier League say they are eager to have grounds back to full capacity for the start of the season - raising the hope that Newcastle United's opener against West Ham will be a 52,000 sell out.

United's final game of the season at St James' Park against Sheffield United, a 1-0 win over the Blades, was played out in front of 10,000 supporters as fans returned for the first time since winter 2020.

The home clash with Sheff United did not feature any of the travelling contingent from South Yorkshire.

But West Ham supporters have been handed hope they will be on Level 7 for the first clash of the campaign against the Magpies.

After the fixture list was released, the Premier League stated: "The Premier League and its clubs are committed to the ambition of having full stadiums, including away supporters, from the start of the season, and will continue to work closely with Government and all relevant authorities, ensuring operational plans are in place ready to safely welcome supporters back to stadiums in August."

After almost two seasons of watching or listening to action from home, the Premier League will revert back to a similar broadcast plan to what supporters were used to pre-pandemic.

That sadly means no live games on the BBC with a handful of fixtures broadcast live on Match of the Day.

Top-flight officials said today: "This season will see 200 matches shown live in the UK by partners Sky Sports, BT Sport and Amazon Prime Video.

"Broadcast selections for the month of August will be announced by Monday 21 June 2021.

"The Premier League’s UK live radio partners, BBC Radio 5 Live and talkSPORT, will continue to present the action across each weekend, including the 15:00 slot on Saturday afternoons."
