Newcastle vs Tottenham back under way after supporter who needed medical treatment is stabilised

Newcastle's clash with Tottenham was suspended mid-match on Sunday as a defibrillator was rushed across the field to an unwell fan in the stands.

The Newcastle United fan who received medical attention just before half time has been stabilised.

Newcastle tweeted: "The supporter who was in need of urgent medical assistance has been stabilised and is on their way to hospital.

"Our thoughts are with them."

Both teams were ordered off the pitch just before half-time as medics attended to the supporter in concerning scenes at St. James' Park.

Tottenham players were setting up for a corner when they noticed a disturbance in the stand and immediately signalled to referee Andre Marriner that someone needed medical attention.

The referee quickly suspended the game, taking both sets of players to the dugouts on the opposite side of the ground, while a defibrillator was seen being brought across to the site.

Marriner then checked again with the police as seven minutes of added time were displayed on the fourth official's board.
