Newcastle vs Spurs suspended due to medical emergency

Newcastle United's clash with Tottenham Hotspur was suspended in the first half due to a medical emergency at St James' Park.

Play was stopped in the 41st minute when supporters alerted players and referee Andre Marriner with the game in full flow.

The message was sent to the dugout and United's club doctor Paul Catterson was sent into the East Stand to attend to a supporter.

After halting the game with both sides on the sidelines, Marriner consulted Spurs captain Harry Kane and Jamaal Lascelles and it was agreed that the two teams should go off the field and back to the dressing room.

The stadium announcer then confirmed players will return to finish the final seven minutes of the first half after warming up again.

The supporter was applauded as he left the ground on a stretcher by fellow fans. The fan has been stabilised by medics and is on the way to hospital.
