Newcastle vegan cafe Junk It Up to close in Pink Lane and move to Stack

A vegan fast food cafe famed for its meat-free take on 'fried chicken' is set to move.

Junk It Up announced on Facebook that it will close its cafe in Pink Lane, Newcastle after July 21, before re-opening in the city centre's Stack development, where it will share a space with fellow vegans, Soul Shack.

Junk It Up first opened in Shields Road, Byker , in 2017, before a move to Pink Lane, where it took over the former Bohemian vegan cafe and takeaway.

In a message to its Facebook followers, Junk It Up said: "We have always been 100% vegan, and our passion has always been to spread the vegan word through our food, letting people know that they can still enjoy fast food and junk food if they choose to go vegan.

"With the recent rise in veganism, we feel the best way to remain true to our roots, remain independent, remain 100% vegan, and compete with the chains and multi nationals, is to move to a more central position in the city."

Junk It Up will be open seven-days-a-week in Stack, from 11.30am to 10pm.

Chefs are redesigning the menu "with some favourites staying, and some new dishes making an appearance," the business says.

In its Facebook post, Junk It Up added: "We’d also like to thank you all for your support so far, and ask that you continue to support other 100% vegan businesses like ourselves. We have some amazing independent vegan businesses in the North East, set up by people like us, passionate about spreading the vegan word."
