Newcastle United yet to receive bid from Manchester United despite fresh reports of £25million move for Sean Longstaff

Sean Longstaff is expected to report for pre-season training as normal next week with Newcastle United.

The players will regroup on July 4 under what squad members are already assuming following the exit of Rafa Benitez last week.

Longstaff is set for assessment on his knee injury and will not be rushed into any exhausting schedule until he is ready.

However, it is understood that Manchester United still retain a strong interest in the midfielder's services despite no official bid being tabled for the £25million-rated youngster.

Indeed, Man United are gradually working through a list of targets and having signed Wales winger Daniel James they are now looking to complete a move for Aaron Wan-Bissaka of Crystal Palace.

It is thought that Longstaff could well be in their sights next.

Despite the exit of Benitez , Longstaff is focusing on pre-season but it remains to be seen how he would react if a bid from the Red Devils was accepted.

But Longstaff said earlier in the summer: "It just shows how far I’ve come.

"If someone told us at the start of the season that by the end of it you’d be linked with these teams I’d have laughed at them but it’s nice, it’s flattering.

"I’m massively flattered to have my name even mentioned in those conversations but like I said, I’m 100% focused on Newcastle and trying to get fit and get back in the team here."
