Newcastle United yet to break the deadlock in talks with Sean and Matty Longstaff

Newcastle United are yet to break the deadlock in their contract discussions with Sean and Matty Longstaff.

The duo have been in negotiations with managing director Lee Charnley and their representatives for a number of weeks now, with 19-year-old Matty's contract the more pressing contract of the two deals.

Indeed, the teenager's current contract runs out at the end of this season and he is free to talk to European clubs in January.

The Euro clubs, including Scottish Premiership sides, could trigger a deal for around £400,000.

Speaking at his press conference on Friday, Steve Bruce, who is eager to get both deals tied up, said: "It took Martin Dubravka the best part of three months.

"I keep saying conversations are ongoing - the two Longstaff brothers are there for everybody to see.

"That will keep on going."

Sean will be suspended for this weekend's clash at West Ham as he starts a three-game ban.

Bruce wants him to stay on board and focus on getting back to his best form.

But he is contracted until 2022 after signing a new deal around 12 months ago.

Bruce said: "You don’t want to lose your best players that’s for sure, and Lee is working behind the scenes and will keep working."
