Newcastle United want five deals before the transfer window shuts, and have been offered Danny Welbeck

Steve Bruce is pushing Newcastle United to sign five players in the remainder of the transfer window.

The new head coach has advised managing director Lee Charnley that the squad lacks depth specifically in the striker department.

United have been offered out of contract former Arsenal and Man United man Danny Welbeck while Andy Carroll remains an option too.

But Newcastle will look to improve the cover at full-back and add squad members.

Joelinton is at the top of United’s list but there is further cash available to Bruce if the right deals are on the table.

As Bruce stated on Friday he will have the final say on transfers and will be able to bring his own ideas to the table.

But with such a short timeframe available to him he may have to go with some of the targets already identified by head of recruitment Steve Nickson.
