Newcastle United vs Spurs team news: Sean Longstaff restored to the team by Eddie Howe

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe restored Sean Longstaff to his starting line-up after he was benched away to Aston Villa last weekend due to a bout if illness.

Longstaff returns to the midfield with Anthony Gordon missing out on a place in the starting line-up. Gordon started the 3-0 defeat at Villa Park - to the surprise of some after a fiery reaction to being subbed at Brentford - but is back on the subs bench today.

Longstaff lined up in the middle alongside Joe Willock and Bruno Guimaraes. That meant Joelinton, Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy formed the front three. At the back Howe stuck with Dan Burn who was named left-back with Fabian Schar, Sven Botman and skipper Kieran Trippier at right-back.

Skipper Jamaal Lascelles was named as sub for the 27th time this season. Miguel Almiron was only named as sub despite being back from a thigh injury as Howe takes a cautious approach.

Matt Targett is also still waiting for a start with Dan Burn preferred at left-back for United. Spurs had Son and Harry Kane in their frontline.
