Newcastle United vs Sheffield United: Lee Ryder's Premier League prediction

Newcastle face a tricky restart against a Blades side who already have 90 minutes under their belts in midweek against Aston Villa.

Whether that will favour Sheff United or be a bit of a hindrance remains to be seen with two or three games per week set to take its toll on top-flight sides in the next few weeks.

United beat Sheff United 2-0 in the reverse fixture in what was quite an impressive result given the Blades are genuine European contenders this season.

Achieving a Premier League double would be an impressive feat for the Magpies.

Lee Ryder's prediction

It's been three months since that 1-0 victory on the South Coast put Newcastle eight points clear of the drop zone in the top division.

The last thing anybody at United needs right now is the prospect of being pulled back into the bottom pack of sides who are looking to avoid the Championship.

I think Newcastle will be fine on that score but two home games against Sheff United and Villa offers the chance to grab at least four points which would be enough to pretty much stave off the threat of relegation.

After so long in lockdown, I think this home clash will favour the Magpies and home advantage still counts for something.

I think they'll come out fighting here.

Referee

David Coote (Nottinghamshire)

The official was in line to take charge of the original fixture back in March.

Charity bet

Newcastle to win at 12/5.
