With Isaac Hayden banned Sean Longstaff replaces him with Jonjo Shelvey back after muscle trouble and Allan Saint-Maximin.

Newcastle were unable to name a full bench and forced to put two goalkeepers on their list of subs.

Chronicle Live understands that a mix of injuries and Covid cases are the reason why the Magpies are short handed.

Howe explained the situation before kick-off, saying: “It's been difficult in the preparation for today. We've got a mixture of injuries and Covid cases.

"The squad is stretched but we're making the best of the situation. We want to play and hopefully we give a really good account of ourselves.”
