Newcastle United vs Manchester United: Premier League prediction

Newcastle United have already tasted defeat once to Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

But the stakes are just as high this weekend as the Red Devils head to Tyneside for a defining fixture in the race for the Champions League. Victory for Newcastle would see them leapfrog Man United and claw their way back into the Champions League places with Tottenham Hotspur not in action until Monday night at Goodison Park.

It would also see the Magpies go level with Man United on points and take third spot on goal difference.

Lee Ryder's prediction

Newcastle fans know how big this one is at the weekend and that so much is riding on an intense battle against the Red Devils. This is a strange time for Man United and just weeks after winning the Carabao Cup they suffered a 7-0 hammering at Liverpool.

Since then they have dusted themselves down to advance to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, beating Fulham, and booking a quarter-final place in the Europa League after seeing off Real Betis. There are cracks to expose in the Man United defence but they are still organised and have threats all over the pitch.

I think both teams could end up cancelling each other out in this one and it could end up all square. That wouldn't be the result we're looking for, but it also wouldn't be the end of the world for Newcastle with less daunting fixtures on the horizon.

Betting

Newcastle are 29/20 to get three points while Man United have been priced at 15/8. The draw has odds of 23/10 with Bet 365.
