Newcastle United vs Manchester United: Magpies made the clear underdogs in own back yard

Newcastle United face Manchester United in the Super Sunday encounter at St James' Park knowing that failure to win will result in a fortnight in the relegation zone.

The Magpies were hammered at Leicester and confidence is frail within the camp, but Man United will arrive on Tyneside after a tough week with two fixtures played by the time the game kicks off.

Newcastle's players have been open and honest about the situation this week with the general feeling at the club that standards have plummeted recently.

But they must now do their talking on the pitch against Man United.

Lee Ryder's prediction

The bookies have made Man United the clear favourites for this one at 17/20 with Newcastle 7/2 to take the points at St James' Park.

It's difficult to make a case for Newcastle getting the win here given the way they are playing and the way things seem to be a downward spiral.

Whether the Magpies can scrape a draw out of this one remains to be seen.

It certainly wouldn't be the worst result in the world with William Hill offering 5/2 for that particular outcome.

Let's be brave and go with a stalemate.

Was in charge of the 1-0 win at Spurs, let's pray that could be an omen.
