Newcastle United vs Everton: Lee Ryder's Premier League prediction

As much as I'd like to see it, I don't think that Steve Bruce's side will exactly go for the jugular against Everton.

Southampton did exactly that on Sunday but Newcastle seem to be content to absorb pressure and try to cash in on counter attacks.

The reality is that United would accept a point here if offered one beforehand and on the basis of the last few seasons that would be a big point on the count up to 35-40 points which is Newcastle's first target of the season.

Lee Ryder's prediction

Despite their lofty perch at the top of the table, Everton have conceded only one less than Newcastle this season in the Premier League and as the Saints proved there are gaps to expose.

It's whether they can make the most of the breaks they get or not and can put on a defensive game plan that doesn't just avoid relying on bad finishing from the opposition.

If Newcastle are going to go about this with a defensive mindset then a point is the most we can expect from this one.

The way Karl Darlow is playing I can see this being a draw.

Referee

Stuart Attwell (Warwickshire)

He took charge of the opening night win over West Ham.

Charity bet

The draw at 12/5 with William Hill.
