The Magpies boss named £12million new boy Kieran Trippier in his starting line-up to face the U's as the England star made his debut for Newcastle following a whirlwind week.
Trippier started the cup tie with a strong back line as Fabian Schar and Matt Ritchie returned while Jonjo Shelvey and Sean Longstaff were on patrol in midfield.
