Newcastle United 'very happy' with Elias Sorensen's progress, according to Carlisle United boss

Carlisle United boss Steven Pressley insists Newcastle United are "very happy" with the club's treatment of Elias Sorensen - despite his lack of playing time.

The Danish striker has struggled for minutes so far this season for the League Two side.

The 20-year-old did find the back of the net in a friendly victory over Rangers, and also featured in the EFL trophy against Wolves.

Sorensen's lack of regular minutes - coupled with his disappointing spell at Blackpool last season - has prompted concerns among supporters and the club's hierarchy.

Speaking to BBC Cumbria, Carlisle manager Pressley confirmed he had recently discussed Sorensen's progress with the Magpies' loan co-ordinator Shola Ameobi.

Despite the striker's lack of gametime, Pressley is adamant United are "very happy" with his treatment at Carlisle.

He said: "We’re treating him really well. In terms of game time of course they [Newcastle] will be disappointed. They’ve put a player out who wants to play.

“But I spoke with Shola [Ameobi] yesterday and we had a conversation. I briefed him on a number of things. I spoke to him in person when he came up to watch him in the EFL Trophy game against Wolves.

“Of course they want him to be playing more, but they told me they’re really happy with how he’s been treated and the additional work he’s doing.

“They said after the Wolves game that was the hardest they’d ever seen him play and work.

“It’s part of my job when players like that come in to shape them and develop them, and if he doesn’t get the minutes that they want him to play, when he goes back they still get a more formed player in my opinion. That’s really important.

“The good thing is he played and he scored [against Wolves] and so that’s saying to me he wants to be playing.

“But they’re very happy with his treatment here and they’re happy with how we’re going about things, but like any club that puts a player out on loan they’d like him to play more minutes.
