As a result, The Mail reports that the next transfer window is unlikely to open until the end of August and there are still ongoing discussions around the length of the window, with EFL clubs said to be pushing for a longer and more flexible window.
FIFA’s guidelines state that the summer transfer window must be open for a period of 12 weeks, which would mean the next transfer window would be open until almost November if it begins at the end of August, but it is unclear whether FIFA’s guidelines need to be adhered to in this aspect.
It also suggests that contract extensions for players approaching the end of their contract in June would be extended by another two months, tying them down with their current employers until the end of August - where they would then be free to leave to join a new club.
