Newcastle United uncertainty sees Mo Diame get ready to walk away from club - despite Rafa Benitez's faint hopes of keeping him

Mo Diame is expected to leave Newcastle United on June 30 after landing a bumper deal in the Middle East.

Diame is likely to join Al-Gharafa in Qatar on a mega deal worth £100,000 per week and with the Magpies still in limbo, any hope of contract talks reopening look to be over.

Rafa Benitez had made it clear to Newcastle chiefs that he may still want to discuss an extension to Diame's contract if he stayed on as manager.

However, in the days since the retained list was published, Benitez has not struck any type of agreement with United over some of the sticking points of the offer he was made on May 17.

Al-Gharafa have been able to offer the length of contract that Diame was looking with a two-year deal ready to go for the end of this month.

United had snubbed Diame's pleas for a longer deal last season and he also failed to trigger a one-year extension after falling short in the amount of appearances required to win a new deal.

Diame has been open when talking about a new contract and said at the end of the 2018/19 campaign: "When we were talking about my contract, I asked for two years, and they (Newcastle) don’t want that.

"Because we know what they want for this club; it’s difficult to get an extension when you are over 30 here.

"It’s not a problem for me; it’s football and part of the job."
