Newcastle United transfer rumours: Man United told to accept Lingard offer, race for AFCON star

Here's a round-up of your Newcastle United transfer rumours on Saturday, 22 January.

Manchester United told to accept Newcastle offer

Former Leeds United and Man City defender, Danny Mills has told Manchester United to accept Newcastle's approach for Jesse Lingard.

The England international is out of contract in the summer and risk losing him for nothing, despite offers of a new contract.

Nonetheless, Lingard wants assurances over playing time, something he hasn't had this season.

“I don’t get Man United at all,” Mills told Football Insider.

“Why would you not let him go? If you’re not going to use him, you might as well let him go in January.

“I think this will go down to the last day of the transfer window. Then Man United will suddenly go ‘Oh, there’s no permanent offers, we’re just going to let him go for £5million’.

“What else can they do? Do they just sit there and lose £5million? That would be poor business.

“It would only be £7million or £8million if it was a permanent deal anyway. If you can get £5million in on a loan fee, take the offer.”

Alan Shearer's resounding one word answer on Newcastle United's pursuit of Jesse Lingard

Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has delivered a one-word verdict on whether Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard would be a good signing for the Magpies.

Newcastle have already reportedly seen a £5million loan offer rejected by the Red Devils for Lingard, but are still keen on bringing the England man to St James' Park.

Man United, though, are reluctant to lose the 29-year-old on a temporary basis this month as he is out of contract at the end of the season and would therefore lose him for nothing.

On the other hand, Lingard would only consider a loan move to St James’ Park due to the threat of relegation that faces the North East side.

However, Shearer believes it would be a good move, judging by his latest social media post.

Magpies join Arsenal in race for AFCON star

Newcastle United have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Senegalese star, Pape Abou Cisse.

The latest reports claim the Toon are tracking the Olympiakos defender over a potential move to St. James' Park.

The Gunners have been tracking the AFCON star, who has replaced the Covid stricken Kalidou Koulibaly in the opening two games of the tournament for Senegal.

The fee being reported is around the £12million mark and the Magpies are in desperate need of reinforcements.
