Magpies 'drop' interest in Reds midfielder Lingard

Newcastle United are said to have cooled their own interest in Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard, with the 29-year-old out of contract at Old Trafford later this year.

Denied a move away from the club by current interim boss Ralf Rangnick in January, the former West Ham loanee has long been linked with a move to the North east, with David Moyes also said to be interest too.

But according to Sports Mole, the Toon are set to focus their attention elsewhere this summer, despite his availability on a free transfer.

Lingard has featured sporadically for the Red Devils so far this season, starting just two Premier League games all season.

With the news now confirmed that Manchester City are set to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Erling Haaland, ChronicleLive's Lee Ryder has reported that the Magpies sent scouts to watch the Norwegian striker way back in 2018.

However, with the scouting mission taking place in the Mike Ashley era, it is obvious that the former owner would never have signed off on a deal for a teenager that would cost an estimated £7m.

Haaland moved to Salzburg and then on to Borussia Dortmund, while Newcastle stuck with what they had and brought in former fan favourite Salomon Rondon on loan from West Bromwich Albion. What could have been...

United are said to be keeping an eye on Burnley defender James Tarkowski, with Everton also keen on enquiring regarding his services.

The 29-year-old could still be relegated with the Clarets this season and could then be available for transfer on a cut-throat deal it seems.

According to HITC, Newcastle could soon swoop in later this summer, with the Burnley man potentially a target for Eddie Howe's backline next season.
