Newcastle United transfer rumours: Leandro Trossard price tag and Barcelona 'challenge'

Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Saturday, October 22.

Trossard £25m price tag

Newcastle must stump up £25million to sign Brighton ace Leandro Trossard in January, according to 90min insider Graeme Bailey. The Belgian is out of contract at the end of the season and is linked with a Dan Ashworth reunion on Tyneside.

“They (Newcastle) do still lack that ability to unlock teams at times in the final third you know,” Bailey said. “At the moment, Newcastle are relying on the spectacular.

“We’ve seen Almiron has hit a rich vein of form and it’s his magical moments. We saw Fabian Schar hit a 30-yarder against Nottingham Forest earlier in the season. But sometimes you’ve got to work your way through these players - and they’re a bit over-reliant on Bruno at times.”

“And in terms of fees… one year left, you’re not looking at £50m. But yeah, I think you’re looking at £25million. From what I’m hearing, £20/25million is about right.”

Barca to challenge Toon

A Brazilian reporter claims Barcelona will rival Newcastle to sign wonderkid Andrey Santos. Reports have linked the 18-year-old with a big-money move to Tyneside in recent weeks.

Efforts have been made to bolster the Magpies’ youth setup since the sporting director arrived in June. Six youngsters have arrived through the door, highlighting the off-field focus is every bit as important as the first team.

Santos would be the jewel in the crown of Newcastle’s youth signings so far. However, speaking on his YouTube channel, Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola suggests Barcelona - just as they were with Garang Kuol - are also keeping tabs on the midfielder.

Turkish delight

Newcastle are “ready” to sign Turkish international Hakan Calhanoglu, according to CalcioMercato. The Italian outlet reports that the Magpies “dream” of signing the Inter Milan midfielder - who has 72 caps for his country.

Rumours have heated up in recent days linking Newcastle with Calhanoglu. Earlier this week, the same publication claimed Toon chiefs were battling with Manchester United for the 28-year-old’s signature.

A creative midfielder, Calhanoglu would be a cheaper alternative to Leicester City talisman James Maddison.
