Newcastle United transfer rumours: Goncalo Ramos update, pundit urges Conor Gallagher move and Aston Villa's rival interest

Your Newcastle United transfer round-up for Sunday, August 14.

Ramos update

Goncalo Ramos insists he is 'fine' at Benfica amid strong interest from Newcastle United. The 21-year-old has been linked with the Magpies, as well as Paris Saint-Germain and Nottingham Forest, reportedly turning down the latter.

However, the forward has addressed his future in an interview with Sport TV after scoring the only goal in Benfica's 1-0 win at Casa Pia on Saturday.

Ramos said: "Of course I am [happy at Benfica]. I'm at Benfica, I'm fine. We're playing well and what matters is Benfica."

The Portugal U21 international fell out of favour under Jorge Jesus and his playing time was largely restricted by the presence of Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez. But with both leaving Lisbon this summer, Ramos has been given a new lease of life.

He has scored four goals and provided three assists in just four appearances across all competitions this season, including a hat-trick in a 4-1 victory over FC Midtjylland in the UEFA Champions League 3rd Round qualifier.

Pundit urges Newcastle to sign Gallagher

Former Arsenal forward Kevin Campbell has urged Newcastle to move for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher this summer. The Athletic journalist Chris Waugh wrote in a Q&A on Thursday that Newcastle had reportedly 'asked' about the availability of Chelsea trio Gallagher, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic.

The Magpies have 'asked' the Blues to keep them informed if the players will be made available on loan before the transfer window closes on 1 September. However, it may be more difficult to sign Pulisic over the other two.

Campbell believes Gallagher would be a great alternative to James Maddison, telling the Football Insider: "He has a great engine. I don't think he is as creative as Maddison though. He doesn't have that craft.

"Gallagher is more of an all-action player. He would give them a lot at the top end of the pitch though because he can get around. He gets through 90 minutes easily.

"I think he needs to add a bit more creativity to his game. He is young and is still learning. Maddison is more experienced than him. I still think Gallagher would be a good signing though. I could see that."

Aston Villa linked with Newcastle target

Spanish publication Fichajes claim Aston Villa have emerged as the latest club interested in signing Real Betis attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir. The same publication reported that Newcastle were considering a £45m move for the Frenchman last month.

Manchester City also view him as a potential replacement for Bernardo Silva should the Portuguese international leave the Etihad Stadium. Fekir broke through the youth ranks at Olympique Lyonnais and went onto score 69 goals and provide 46 assists in 193 appearances during an impressive spell with the club.

He joined Real Betis in the summer of 2019 and has registered 22 goals and 23 assists in 118 appearances for the Green-and-Whites. Nevertheless, Manuel Pellegrini's side are looking to balance their books and are willing to sell Fekir this summer.
