Newcastle United transfer rumours as Magpies face stiff competition for centre-back pair

Here are your Newcastle United transfer rumours on Friday, December 10.

Liverpool join Newcastle in race for Championship ace

Everyone involved with Newcastle knows that the defence will need strengthening in January if they are to stay in the Premier League.

So, unsurprisingly, it is defenders who continue to be linked with moves to St James’ Park and one of those who has emerged in the last couple of days is Lloyd Kelly.

He is a player that Eddie Howe knows very well as he handed the 23-year-old his Bournemouth debut in 2019.

The Mail Online have reported that he is the subject of interest from the Magpies but they are not the only side looking to secure his signature as Liverpool also want to bring him to the Premier League.

If Howe does decide to go after the young centre-back, he will be hoping that their relationship, as well as the promise of regular first-team football, will put Newcastle in pole position.

Lee identifies players he would sign for Newcastle

As a man still very much loved on Tyneside, Rob Lee remains constantly interested in affairs at St James’ Park and he has had his say on the upcoming transfer window.

Like the rest of the Magpies faithful, he has claimed that reinforcements are essential if his former side are to retain their Premier League status.

When asked who he believes Newcastle should sign by Coffee Friend, he said: “I would say Kieran Trippier, James Tarkowski and Jesse Lingard. Lingard would score goals, it’s what Newcastle need.

“Tarkowski, he’s been in England squads, he’s a good defensive player, strong, quick and a bit of a leader.

“I’ve always liked Trippier too. They’re the players you could get and they’d want to come to Newcastle. That’s important.

“We don’t want players coming to Newcastle just for the money, but players who want to play for this club and play for these fans. If we get those types of players in, we’ll be okay.”

Toon face competition from Serie A giants for Botman

Sven Botman has emerged as one of Newcastle’s main targets in the upcoming transfer window but they are certainly not the only side that hold an interest in the Dutchman.

Current Serie A league leaders, AC Milan, are also interested in signing the Lille centre-back according to Sky Italia.

It will be a tough signing for either side to pull off after the Ligue 1 champions qualified for the knock-out stages of the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Transfermarkt value Botman at just over £25m but it is highly unlikely that Lille would even listen to offers of that kind of money.
